SO WHAT’S YOUR GUESS FOR CONDITIONS THIS WINTER?

HERE IS WHAT THE FARMERS ALMANAC IS SAYING…

The outlook calls for nationwide snow and bitterly cold temperatures in many areas. Included in that is the Northeast – yep, it might be payback from last years record warmth. They’re calling for December and January to be a “ mixed bag ”, but real cold coming in for February. And I quote: “Northern tier states could see ambient air temperatures as low as 40 degrees below zero!” The El-Nino pattern was in place last winter which resulted in warmer than normal weather. The La-Nina pattern is supposed to be in place this winter. That ’ s what pushes the Arctic air down lower into the country – similar to the pattern we saw in 2014-2015. ( I don ’ t think I will ever forget that one ) Regardless of the conditions outside, you can be assured that all of us here at Rand-Handy will be doing our best to keep you comfortable inside. We have been upgrading equipment, restocking our supply room shelves, and educating ourselves on the most efficient heating equipment for your home. Whether its our office staff, oil delivery drivers, or our service technicians, we are all ready for whatever the coming winter throws at us.

The Full Service Difference

If all you needed was oil in your tank, you could get that from a lot of companies. But it’s our “full service difference” that gives you real dependability, service, comfort and peace of mind.

ON A SAD NOTE

We are sorry to report the loss of one of our loyal dogs. Toby was given an honorable ending to his long life on Wednesday, August 10, 2016. He was a regular here at our office for 13-1/2 years and he will be missed by all of us, and all those who came to visit. Be assured, if there is a dog heaven, he is a VIP there.

SAVE A TREE, SIGN UP FOR EMAIL STATEMENTS.

Every little bit helps, so if you want to help us be green, send us and email or a note on your bill, and we will change you over to email statements. You can also make a note on the free oil drawing form on the next page.

Have you seen our sign?

As many of you know, we have a sign board in front of our office on Webster St. For years now, Darlene has been writing and drawing, quotes and sayings, on this board. Here are a couple from this summer I want to share. I can’t count the number of times people take me aside and comment on how much they love reading the signs every day. Thanks Darlene! Although we don’t advertise on there, if you have a catchy phrase or message you would like us to post, send us a note or an email and maybe your idea will “make the cut.”

SERVICE TIPS:

If your heating system shuts off due to a power outage or malfunction, the reset button may help get it started again by resetting the burner’s controls. Before you press the reset button, follow these steps FIRST, and you may not need a service call. After each of the following steps, listen to hear if the burner comes on.

  1. Check the oil burner switches. Are they on? There is one usually at the top of your stairs or somewhere outside of the boiler room with a red faceplate. There is also one on the side of the heating unit itself.
  2. Check the thermostat. Is it set above room temperature? If its an automatic setback thermostat, try changing the batteries.
  3. Check the circuit breaker and see if the switch has “tripped”. If it has, push the switch off and then back on again. (Or check for a blown fuse in an older home)
  4. Check your oil tank. Does it have oil in it?
  5. Try pressing the reset button on the burner, ONCE. This is usually on top of a control on your burner.
  6. If you have tried all of the above, and the burner still doesn’t come on, call our office. If it is after hours, your call will be directed to our answering service and they will forward the information to the technician on call.
As school begins again, we want to remind you of the return of the yellow school bus to our roads. Please use caution when on the roads and look out for not only the children, but for other vehicles as well. Especially the impatient driver that may not stop, or may try to pass a bus at an inappropriate place.
